slickness

spring 2008 diane von furstenbeg ads by François-Marie Banier.

don't fuck around with this. i've worked in fashion, in advertising and as a downtown hipster fool and i have to say, these are the nicest, most inspired ads i've ever seen. they're on my inspiration wall right now. they just have so much to say compared to the usual vapid fashion advertising generally pushed out by dinks like lipman etc. this is the hot shit. get a mouthful.

33 1/3

awhile back i bought a book about zeppelin iv for this chick i was dating who loved the zep and needed a quick read for a long plane ride. fast forward a few years and i am super hot on this series of books that boasts about 100+ pages on one specific album. they have the classics, like zeppelin iv, exile on main street etc, but are now getting into some unexpected yet rad shit like neutral milk hotel's in the aeroplane over the sea and bee thousand by guided by voices. continuum books has this shit on lock. i've read a few and just picked up more to read over the holidays. if you want to know EVERYTHING about an album you love, this is for you. get some. god save the village green...

for no reason at all

sure she's probably not worth a damn, but god damn, she's a sly fox... for a white girl. shot by the same shmucks nylon always uses i'm sure but brilliantly styled by aya kanai, who is no dummy, she left that shit rag for greener pastures. kudos.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Mac Vs. Dennis Season: 3 - The best bloopers are a click away

okay, let me be completely honest here. my friends were telling me to watch it's always sunny in philidelphia for 2 years before i actually tuned in. over the last few weeks i've seen them all thanks to hulu, nicky and torrentfinder. it's the best show on tv. it's rude, it's crude, it's totally fucking hilarious. judge for yourself. without further adieu, the gang dances their asses off.

and kill us all, with holy fingers

Gouge Away - Pixies

a few years ago, it was all the rage to love the pixies. gotta love when a band finally gets the respect it's due. fucking a. anyway, i had a pretty great drunken conversation a few nights ago about doolittle and surfer rosa which made me go home and listen to each album all the way through, top to bottom. i can't imagine what it would be like to create something like that. it's... just... insanity.

and thanks zoe for introducing me to them when even kurt cobain's suggestion didn't make me sit up and listen.

david fincher

so david fincher is directing a brad pitt movie (yawn) based on an f scott fitzgerald book from the 20's or some shit. wonder if it'll be as good as his first short film - a perfect circle video called judith which, among josh freeze and maynard james keenan features a sex kitten on bass named paz lenchantin. fincher is supposedly a crazy person but who cares, if he can direct vids like this and make movies like fight club he's a-okay with me.

five easy pieces

when there's nothing on tv and i'm in that mindless mood i tend to seek out old movies my film buff friend phil says i "need" to see. so tonight, i picked up five easy pieces and oh shit, i'm a little torn up inside. it's great, it's awful, it's sad, it's shocking, it's more than anything i can put in words right now. i guess i wanna say i'm sorry to kg, nb and ak. i've said for years that i stood by my decisions to be a dick when it was due but now i feel differently. in short, people of the internets, my tiny little world has been rocked by one easy movie. see it if you've ever been a fucking prick to anyone. oh man... life's too short.

appetite for lowbrow

i just watched this special on ovation called the lowdown on lowbrow. in it, robert williams says some pretty great shit about la vs nyc. i have to say, i completely agree with him despite being a new york resident for just shy of ten years. i digress, basically he says that after world war 2, the good old usa took a lot of culture and art from france et al so nyc is a very european city. cool, no problem there. but when california and specifically la sprung up much later, it owed nothing to europe. no art, no culture. the cali natives invented hot rods, weirdo comics and big fake tities. not bad rw. point one to la.
regardless, tune into ovation to see it. it's pretty badass.

the hot shit

whether it's old guitars, old records or used books, i'm the kinda guy that appreciates something a bit weathered and used. not bombed out and depleted like andy rooney but used a bit. there's something cool about it. vintage for all you fashion people. i picked up these boots for next to nothing from a guy who also specializes in vintage mexican skull rings. next time...

kate moss is like a fine wine. she's got another spread in the sept w and holy shits, it's a must purchase. for reals. denis friedman + eddie leida are coasting on fumes for the last, well, maybe 15 years, but occasionally they get it right/lucky. regardless, go katie go.
