guru's rap style along with dj premier's sound, defined the tight relationship between mc + dj by inventing a sort of sub genre of hip hop which brought it from it's humble beginnings to a new and still untouched high. fusing funk-laden jazz beats to a unique rhyme style, guru and gang starr have forever been cemented into the hip hop pantheon from their first release, no more mr nice guy.
